Pandemonium broke out early in the day on Saturday between the supporters of Andy Uba and Tony Nwoye as the special convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got underway at the Eagles Square, Abuja.
Both Andy Uba and Tony Nwoye are laying claim to the sole ticket of the PDP ahead of the governorship election in Anambra state holding on November 16. They emerged as candidates at separate primaries held by the party last week.
Andy and his brother Chris, along with their supporters got to Eagles Square early enough and the advantage of taking over the seats reserved for delegates from Anambra state. Also seated with them was the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah.
However, trouble started when Tony Nwoye, came into the convention ground in company of his large supporters. There were no seats left for them to occupy at the stand and Nwoye’s supporters therefore, demanded to know what Andy was doing at the venue when he has been suspended from the party.
As voices were being raised, tension rose gradually and suddenly the supporters of the two Chieftains exchanged blows. In fact, Andy was rough handled in the process.
At this point, all eyes shifted towards Anambra stand and security personnel were deployed to restore order. Eventually, a seat was found for Tony Nwoye shortly before President Goodluck Jonathan arrived the venue.
