Oron Youth association swears in new executives in FCT
By Paul Efiong An apex youth association from Oron Akwa Ibom State known as the Essu Nlap Oro, Abuja branch at the weekend sworn in its 25-member new executives who are to man the association affairs in Abuja for the next three years.
Speaking at the event, the new president of the group, Comrade Ulap Okon Archibong promised to operate an open door policy irrespective of ones background, educational status and gender.
Comrade Archibong also used the opportnity to appeal to oron youth leaving in Abuja to always identify with the association, saying he has mapped out workable strategies to assist job seekers and others who may be in need of one thing or another.
The new president futher disclosed his readiness to defend oron people especially the youths in the Federal Capital Territory whom he alleged have for some years been neglected by successive elders of Oron who had been in position to help but refused calling for the support of all in order to fulfill his thought out plan for the group in FCT.
He maintained that the association which is the only group in Oron that carries youths along in its decision making would work tirelessly within his tenure to making sure that youths who are graduates but not yet employed are given opportunity to do so in order to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of oron people not just in the FCT but also in the entire country.
The union leader also used the occasion to appeal to community leaders, kings makers as well as those occupying one position of leadership in one way or the other to grant the right of decent to all concern and his organization in particular to ensure unity of purpose among all concern.
While commending members of his association for standing by him before, during and after the election that ushered him into office, he promised never to let down the trust imposed on him assuring that he would be transparent, loyal, to all while carrying out his assignment.
The president general of Oron Union, Dr. Effiong Edunam was represented at the occasion by Mrs.Jenet Amba, who applauded the youth for their steadfastness and unity of purpose in keeping the mandate of the group alive.
Dr. Edunam in his address congratulated the new exco on their victory during election urging them to put the interest of oron people and nation above every other things as such would help in propagating the aims and objectives of the founding fathers of Oron extraction.
In his address, the Chairman Board of Trustees(BOT) of the group, Chief Asukwo Enweme lamented youths reckless desire for political offices observing that if such disposition continues, oron nation may not have prominent persons to represent them in civil service in the near future.
He also warned the newly sworn in executive members of the association never to bend rules in order to perpetrate themselves into office after their tenure expiration.
The president General of Essu Nlap Oro,Joseph Bassey in his address urged the new exco to ensure that 35% is reserved for women as such has been the tradition of the group right from its inception.
He also informed the new exco of his last visit to Akwa Ibom Sate governor, Emmanuel Udom describing the conversation he had with the governor as very fruitful.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Honourable Chris Abasieyo thanked all for coming out to grace the occasion urging members of the association to give the new executive full support to enable them succeed in the plan for all.
The high points of the event was presentation of certificates to all the new executive members by Barr.Mary Awana who is the Chairman Electoral Committee of the group while oath of office was administered by Barr Anthony Ukpong while Barr Remegius Edebiagha was the Master of Ceremony.
