With twelve out of thirteen aspirants for the sole ticket for the Imo state Gubernatorial Election under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) schemed out of the exercise a fortnight ago crying blue murder, there are ominous signs of the death of the party in the state.
Prompt News Online exclusively learnt from sources close to the aggrieved frontline APGA Imo state Governorship aspirants that the National Working Committee (NWC) under the leadership of Chief Victor Oye of Anambra State are now under fire for the Charade Primary which threw up Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume as the APGA Gubernatorial candidate in Imo state.
Some of the aspirants and APGA leadership in the are insisting that no primary election took place in the state as the NWC appointed Primary Election Committee for the state never came to conduct the election after three days of waiting by stakeholders.
However, Prompt News Online learnt that while the 12 other aspirants were still waiting for APGA national body to conduct the primary, Araraume Camp outsmarted the rest of them by organising a kangaroo primary by himself at another place in Owerri and later declared himself as APGA flag bearer in the 2019 Gubernatorial Election.
Angered by the shenanigans of the APGA national leadership, the aspirants including Imo state political heavyweights like former Governor, H.E. Dr. Ikedi Godson Ohakim; business mogul, Mr. Frank Nneji of ABC Transport Plc; Chief Uche Onyeagocha; Chief Ziggy Chibuzo Azike; Mr. Ike C. Ibeh and Barrister Charlie Onyagbako among others, have either headed to the law courts to press for damages for the botched APGA Gubernatorial Election Primary in Imo state.
Indeed, the grounds have been prepared for the burial of APGA as a party in Imo state as many of the aggrieved aspirants have either defected to other parties or withdrawn their loyalty and support for the party in the state and nationwide.
Specifically, Gov. Ohakim who joined APGA with the army of his loyal supporters across the state and Nigeria has ditched the party with his crowd to Accord Party which is fast becoming a party to beat in the next election in Nigeria.
He like other disappointed aspirants are taking serious actions against APGA national leadership for what they called deceitful primary which never took place in Imo state. Some are accusing the APGA NWC, BoT and the national Chairman of underhand business and sharp practice in the conduct of the botched APGA Gubernatorial Election Primary in Imo state.
The aspirants and their supporters are calling for the refund of hundreds of millions of naira they were made to cough out to purchase the APGA Gubernatorial ticket forms to qualify to participate in what they call sham primary election in the state.
