Atiku/Obi ticket: Umahi laments exclusion of Ebonyi, Imo
By Godwin Okeh, Abakaliki
The chairman of the South east governors’ forum and governor of Ebonyi state David Umahi Tuesday lamented the exclusion of Ebonyi and Imo states in the selection of Vice presidential candidate by Alahaji Atiku Abubaka.
Umahi made this known while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki at the state executive council chambers, government house.
He said: “We have never said that Peter Obi is not good for us. We have nothing against Obi but we want to take part in any decisions that concern us.
“The five names submitted to Atiku and of course no governor of the south east wants to be Vice President. All of us want to finish our tenure.
“These five names should have included the representatives from the 5 states in the south east. No name from Ebonyi and Imo states.
” I am a fighter of marginalization and so, if we are going to vote, we must be treated with equity. The issue is that, two names came from Anambra. Two name came from Abia while one came from Enugu.
“Nothing is wrong from having somebody from Ebonyi. One person from IMO state. People are abusing me in the social media but it doesn’t move me. We must sit down with the Presidential candidate and discuss. And that, if we are going to vote for you, we must be part of the decision making.
“I’m not talking about myself but for the leadership of the South east. If six people can come from other zone to take decisions and there is nobody from the south east and our people think it is right and so be it. What I am saying is that nobody is against Peter Obi.
“The leaders of Ndigbo are saying that when decisions are taken, we must be included in the process.
“If, Atiku Abubaka just announced his running mate without consulting with people in other regions but, seeing the list and making his choice, we would have not bordered. He has right to chose his running mate because it is like one chosen a wife.
“It just to show the sense of belonging. Ebonyi state should have been included, even if we will not make the list. Look, we are human beings. What disqualified us from being included. One of the reasons why Ebonyi man is not too comfortable with the issue of region is that we are afraid of further marginalization.
“Peter Obi is my friend, you would have seen our pictures in the social media. Yes, he is my good friend. We have worked together very very well. He told me that if he were me, he would have made greater noise, that I’m making. He (Peter Obi) understands” he stated.
