Barely two months to the start of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World cup final in France, African representatives in the global football fiesta since first edition in China PR in 1991 have been very poor in goal scoring.
Prompt News Online investigations revealed that African players have not been firing in cylinders in the FIFA flagship women’s football competition. African players have managed to score 24 goals in the seven previous editions.
Expectedly, Nigerian players alone have scored a paltry 12 goals in the past seven appearances.
However, only Cameroon’s ace striker, Gaelle Enganamouit has scored a hat-trick in one Women’s World Cup edition. She scored three goals in Cameroon 6-0 whitewash of Ecuador in their debut in 2015 in Canada.
Below is the list of all the African goalscorers at the FIFA Women’s World Cup since 1991. Out of the 24 players to have ever scored for an African team in the #FIFAWWC , Nigeria 🇳🇬 emerges on top with 12 different names while Cameroon is second with 5 having only featured in 1 tournament. Ghana completes the podium with 4 players.
Côte d’Ivoire has 2 and Equatorial Guinea close the table with only Genoveva Anonman.
Indomitables Lionesses Striker Gaelle Enganamouit is ranked number 1 because she netted the three goals one match in 2015, during a 6-0 over Ecuador
